Nylon & Solution Dyed Nylon Carpets

Nylon is a synthetic fibre, which is strong, resilient, and abrasion resistant. Nylon is a slightly more expensive fibre than polypropylene, and is likewise stain-resistant. For technical reasons however it is not bleach-cleanable. Despite having better abrasion and crush resistance than polypropylene, or even wool in some cases, nylon is a far softer fibre. It is an extremely durable fibre and when constructed as a low-level loop-pile carpet, is the preferred choice for very high traffic areas in contract flooring situations. SDNs go a step further as the colour and fibre are mixed at the yarn making stage.

Polypropylene Carpets

Of the synthetics, Polypropylene is less expensive than Nylon, has high stain-resistance and is bleach-cleanable. Polypropylene is a great ‘family friendly’ fibre, generally costs less per square metre and is ideal for rooms where stains and spills are common. It doesn’t absorb moisture so is quite difficult to stain or fade. Its durable, easy to clean and maintain, and offers excellent value for money when it comes to installing it in rental and investment properties.

Woollen Carpets

Wool is an excellent natural fibre that has been used in carpets and rugs for centuries. It offers superb resilience to wear because of the inherent ability of the fibre to ‘bounce back’ and recover following the pressure of foot traffic – so retaining its looks over the years. Because of the characteristics of the fibre, it has a natural ability to resist general soiling and responds well to professional cleaning, bouncing back to life. Wool is also flame retardant and has good insulating properties. It is mainly used on its own in a pure 100% or in 80% wool blends with nylon and polypropylene to get the best of both.

Polyester Carpets

Polyester is a synthetic fibre that is extremely colourfast. It is easily cleaned, and is resistant to most dyes, including Kool-Aid and red wine. It is also resistant to sun fading and discoloration from animal urine. Generally, polyester is mostly made out of recycled material hence these carpets are considered as an environmentally friendly option. They are non-allergic and come in various beautiful colours to select from.
